The Weight of Expectations
Dear all,
Yesterday’s words reminded me of something I haven’t talked about yet—expectations.
Having expectations for others to be a certain way, or having people place expectations on you, can be a real burden. You can’t always be what others think you are. They create an image of you in their minds, and when you don’t fit into it, they feel disappointed—even though it was never truly you to begin with.
The same goes the other way around. When you expect something from others, you set yourself up for disappointment. The less you expect, the less you get hurt.
Letting go of expectations brings freedom. Just be yourself, and let others be who they are.
